Had a guy at a BBQ tell me crane operating is just pushing buttons. Set him straight.

I was at a family BBQ last weekend and this dude, a friend of a friend, starts saying crane operating is easy because it's all automated. I explained the load charts, wind factors, and site checks we do before every lift. He seemed shocked, thought it was just joystick work. It got me thinking about how misunderstood our job is. How do you all deal with people underestimating what we do? Any stories like this?

Man, that's so annoying when people think it's just pushing buttons. You explained it well with the load charts and wind factors. Most folks have no clue about the planning and focus it takes to do that job safely. Good on you for setting him straight.

Agree with you completely. Watched a guy operate a crane in high winds once. Scary how much math happens in his head while we all just stood there.

Reminds me of surgeons, that intense focus. @diana318 gets it.
