You're calling one bad Thursday the worst in 8 years but that sounds like a pretty good track record to me. Most people in construction would trade their worst week for your worst day without blinking. Maybe take a step back and think about how many safe shifts you've had instead of focusing on one rough one.

Totally agree with @grant.sam here. Eight years without a major incident is honestly incredible in my book. I've worked in manufacturing for twelve years and we've had way more than one bad Thursday in that span. People forget how lucky they are when they're sitting in a climate controlled office looking at spreadsheets. Try running a crew in the middle of July on a roof and then complain about one tough day at your desk. Perspective is everything and this guy nailed it.
