Pro tip: read the load chart before you touch the sticks
Ngl, saw a guy in Philly last Tuesday try to pick 12 tons with a crane rated for 8 at that radius. He kept insisting the chart was wrong because the hook block looked fine. Took a superintendent yelling at him to stop before anyone got hurt. If you cant read your own charts, stay off the site. Has anyone else dealt with operators who wing it instead of doing the math?
Charts have safety factors built in so maybe the guy had a point that the block looked fine, some of those old charts are real conservative. But pulling 12 when the book says 8 isn't winging it with margin, that's betting lives on a hunch. Math isn't optional when a mistake means somebody's kid doesn't come home.
