Question about synthetic slings and a close call I had on a job in Bakersfield last Friday.

That Bakersfield heat is no joke for gear. I saw a 1-inch nylon sling left on a hot pipe for an hour last summer, it lost about a third of its rated strength. The UV out there cooks the fibers from the inside. Always check for that chalky white fade on the edges, it means the core is shot. A close call is the best reminder to do a real inspection.

Sounds like you're just scared of the sun.

Yeah, @the_hugo, that chalky fade is a dead giveaway.
