Spent half a shift just trying to get the level right on a new pad

Got to a site in Spokane yesterday and the ground crew had poured the crane pad. My level said it was off by a full inch over ten feet. Had to stop everything, get the foreman, and argue for an hour about bringing in more gravel and re-compacting. What should have been a 30-minute check turned into a four-hour delay before I could even start setting up. Anyone else run into this kind of stubborn ground prep lately?

How often do you have to fight over basic site prep?

Honestly thomas275, depends on the crew. Some guys get it right first time, others you gotta check every single gravel load and grade mark. It's not a war, just annoying extra site visits.

My last project in Springfield had three crews that were all over the place. One load would be perfect, the next would be six inches off spec. It just feels like babysitting sometimes, not a real fight. I guess I'm just not convinced the extra trips are ever that big of a deal in the long run. You fix it, you move on.
