That time I ignored the load chart on a 50-ton Grove and paid for it
Three years ago I was on a site near Portland doing a pick I had done a hundred times before. Concrete panels, nothing fancy. I figured I knew the crane well enough to skip double-checking the chart since it was a quick lift. Turned out the boom angle was just enough off that the tail swing caught a stack of rebar and bent a stabilizer leg. Took two days to fix and I lost a week of trust from the foreman. Any of you guys ever get burned by assuming you knew the numbers?
