Used to think computerized crane load indicators were just expensive bells and whistles. Had a job in Portland last month where my old gut-check method would have been way off.

Did your gut-check method involve closing your eyes and guessing?

Man I have been there. Gut checks can be such a gamble, like you're hoping your brain picks up on some pattern you can't even name. There was this one time I had to pick between two used cars and I just stood there, eyes half closed, waiting for my stomach to give me a sign. It worked out okay I guess, but other times it's just been a total mess and I end up kicking myself later. So no, I don't think it's just guessing, it's more like your brain is doing a quick file search in the background while you're standing there like a statue.
