Vent: got chewed out for not following a lift plan I never saw

I showed up to a job site in Dallas last Tuesday and the foreman handed me a hand-drawn sketch on a napkin, then got mad when I asked for the actual load chart - has anyone else dealt with supervisors skipping the paperwork?

I've been in construction 30 years and hand-drawn napkin sketches were common back in the day, but that doesn't make it right to skip the actual load chart. You were smart to ask for it - safety calls get ignored too often when the boss is in a hurry.

Good point @terry_thomas, I found that just saying "let me grab the chart real quick" usually did the trick when my crew tried to skip it.

Yeah "let me grab the chart real quick" has a way of making people remember why they have those charts in the first place. I once had a guy try to argue the weight was "close enough" until I asked him to hold the 1000 pound steel beam while I checked.
