Found the secret volume sweet spot in my 2012 Honda Civic after 3 years of guessing

I always thought blasting a song meant just cranking the dial to max. But last month I noticed my speakers were distorting bad on the chorus of "Cherub Rock" by Smashing Pumpkins. So I did some digging and found out my stock head unit clips above 28 out of 40. Now I keep it at 26 and bump up the bass and treble a little instead. The sound is way clearer and I can actually hear the drums without that nasty rattle. Has anyone else messed with their EQ instead of just turning it up to 11 all the time?

One small thing to double check - 28 out of 40 is probably fine for most stock Honda head units, but the clipping point varies by song. "Cherub Rock" has a really hot master, so it might clip even lower on that track. I'd test it with a few different songs where the levels are different, like something off a quieter album. EQ tweaks help a ton though, I usually cut the treble a couple notches on my system to stop the harshness in the high hats. What bass setting did you land on?

Oh definitely, I usually just mash buttons and hope for the best, my ears aren't exactly audiophile quality.

Is this really that big of a deal for just driving around town?
