Hit 80,000 miles on my car and the stereo finally broke in
I hit 80,000 miles last Tuesday on I-35 coming back from Waco. My 2012 Honda has been through three alternators and a cracked radiator mount, but the factory stereo never missed a beat until that day. That old CD player started skipping on track 4 of my mix disc from 2018, the one with "Mr. Brightside" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" back to back. I always crank those two songs to max volume, no shame, even with my mom in the passenger seat last Christmas. It surprised me how much I cared about that little skip, like losing a weird kind of milestone buddy. Has anyone else had a car part die right at a big number like that and feel oddly attached to it?

Actually, track 4 on that mix would be "Bohemian Rhapsody" since it's the longer song and typically comes after a shorter one like "Mr. Brightside" on most custom discs I've made... Track 3 would be "Mr. Brightside" if you were going alphabetical or by vibe.

Huh, I used to think track order was just about flow and not much else. But hearing you say it's about song length makes a lot of sense for keeping the pacing right on a mix. Yeah, I'm with you now on that.

My 2005 Subaru out in the driveway hit 150,000 miles the same day the driver's side window regulator gave out... I had to hold the glass up with a rolled-up towel for two weeks before I could afford to fix it. Felt like the car was telling me we'd been through enough together and it was time for a new quirk. That old stereo of yours probably just needed a dramatic way to announce the milestone, like my window did... maybe it's their version of popping a champagne cork. But hey, at least your car has the decency to break something you can still work around, unlike my towel-and-duct-tape window situation.
