Hitting 200 decibels on my car stereo wasn't my goal, but here we are

Tbh I never planned to hit a specific number on my sound system. I just wanted a little more thump in my Honda Civic. But last month I got a new sub and amp and cranked "Drop It Like It's Hot" at full volume. My rearview mirror actually fell off after the first chorus. I checked my phone's decibel meter app and it read 142 dB, which shocked me. My ears rang for two hours after that ride. Has anyone else accidentally hit a milestone like that, or am I just reckless?

Haha dude that's epic! I did something similar with my old Jeep Cherokee, hit like 138 decibels and cracked the plastic trim around my rear window. My neighbor came knocking thinking there was a legit earthquake happening. Now I keep a little electrical tape roll in my glovebox for when the panels start rattling loose. Your rearview mirror story is hilarious though, at least you can still see out the back!

Oh man, that cracked trim story reminds me of when I had my old Ford Focus and I was trying to get a clean bass note out of the trunk. I ended up rattling the license plate so bad it actually broke one of the screws holding it on. I drove around for two weeks before I noticed it was hanging by just the top screw. Had to stop at a hardware store on my way home from work and pick up new screws. The funny thing was I thought I was being smart by putting weather stripping around the plate to stop the rattle, but all that did was trap the vibration and make the trunk lid itself start buzzing instead. Eventually I just gave up and turned the volume down a notch. Some battles aren't worth fighting when you're driving a car that's already got 180,000 miles on it.
