Overheard a friend say they never turn down the radio at stoplights
Has anyone else ever thought about what you lose by turning it down, not just decibels but the whole experience?

People are terrified of quiet these days. Turning down the radio is like admitting there's a moment of nothing to fill, and that scares the hell out of everyone.

Wait wait wait, you're telling me people actually get SCARED of silence? That blows my mind honestly. I grew up in a house where the radio was always on in the kitchen and my dad had the TV blaring sports in the living room but we never thought about it being a fear thing. It was just noise because that's what you did. Now I see folks at the grocery store with earbuds in even when they're just grabbing milk and I'm like... what are you so afraid of hearing? Your own thoughts? Your footsteps? The sound of the refrigerator humming? I get that quiet can feel uncomfortable at first but it's not like the boogeyman is gonna jump out if you don't have a podcast playing every second.
