My old roommate labeled every single thing in the fridge with masking tape, my new one just asks
Lived with a guy in Austin who put his name and the date on his milk, his eggs, even his half an onion. He freaked out when I used a splash of it for tacos and we didn't speak for 3 days. Now I live with a guy who just says hey is it cool if I grab some of your cheese, and we have never once had a problem. I used to think strict rules kept the peace but honestly a 10 second question does more than 40 pieces of tape. Anyone else live with a labeler and did it actually help or just make things weird?
There was a study I read about a while back that found roommates who talked about shared food actually had fewer fights than ones who set up strict rules. The rules made people feel watched, while just asking kept things chill. Your tape guy sounds like he was fighting a war nobody else signed up for.
