The overnight shift my roommate became a completely different person
I lived with this guy Dave for about 6 months and he was always pretty laid back, worked normal hours, kept to himself. Then he got a new job working graveyard shift at a warehouse and within two weeks he started rearranging the kitchen at 3 AM. I came out for water one night and he had all the pots stacked by size on the floor, said he "needed order" before his shift. Another week later he put up blackout curtains in the living room and told me I couldn't watch TV after 10 PM because the light bothered him. Has anyone else had a roommate's personality flip completely after a schedule change?

Actually I kind of see it a little different. Sometimes people need a gentle nudge to get out of that hole, not just space. I've had friends who shut down and honestly leaving them alone just made them dig deeper. It's like they need someone to come sit with them and watch TV or bring over food without making a big deal about it. Not pushing them to talk about their feelings, just being there physically so they remember they're not totally isolated. Patient space is good but sometimes that turns into them feeling forgotten.

Right there with you, my buddy went through something similar last year and it took him forever to come out of it. It's honestly the worst feeling when someone you care about just shuts down like that (and you can't really do anything about it). You just have to be patient and let them work through it on their own timeline, you know? Give them space but also let them know you're around if they need to talk or just hang out.
