Vent: My roommate in Boise ran a crypto mining rig in our closet for 4 months
Back in 2021, I lived with a guy named Dave in a two bedroom in Boise, and he set up six graphics cards on a wire shelf inside our hall closet without asking me. Our power bill jumped from $60 to $210 a month, and I didn't figure out why until I came home early and heard the fans screaming through the door. Is it normal to ask a roommate to split an unexpected utility jump, or should I have just moved out?
Man, six cards stacked on a wire shelf in a closet is a straight up fire hazard, did he at least have a box fan going or was he just cooking the drywall? Here's what gets me though, did you ever actually confront Dave about the bill or did you just eat that $150 a month for four months while stewing about it? Because the math there matters, that's like $600 out of your pocket, and I gotta know if he tried to play dumb when you brought it up. Did he offer anything at all or just act like running a space heater in July was normal?
