My writing teacher in college said to always outline with index cards, and I finally tried it for a short story last month.

Honestly feel like people make writing way too complicated sometimes. I just scribble some notes on a napkin and start typing, and my stuff turns out fine. It's a short story, not a movie script.

Index cards, really? My high school English teacher swore by them too, but is it worth the extra step for a short story?

Oh man, totally worth it! My old teacher made us do that and I hated it at first... but it really helps you see the whole story at once. Saved me from writing a bunch of scenes that went nowhere.
