PSA: My prompt about a lost key took three days to fix

I wanted a simple idea about someone finding a key with a weird symbol. I got stuck trying to figure out what it unlocked, and my story just stopped. I spent three whole days on it, trying different things like a diary or a locker, but nothing felt right. Finally, I realized the key should open a box in a public library that holds old community secrets. What's the longest you've been stuck on a single story detail?

Honestly, three days for a key? That seems like a lot of stress over one small thing. I get wanting it to be right, but sometimes you just have to pick something and move on. The library box idea is fine, but was all that time really worth it for a single detail?

Oh man, I read a blog post about a writer stuck for a month on a character's name.

Wait, a whole month? That's longer than I've spent picking out some furniture. I knew a guy who spent a week deciding between "Marcus" and "Markus" and I thought that was bad. A month is like, you could have written a whole chapter in that time. What name was even worth that?
