Tried writing a story from a tree's point of view and it turned into something weird
I sat down last Sunday with a notebook and thought I'd write a short piece from an old oak's perspective for a change of pace. After about 3 pages the tree started complaining about the squirrels hiding nuts in its bark cracks like it was running a storage unit business. I had no idea where that came from, but suddenly the whole thing turned into this funny landlord-tenant drama between the tree and the animals living in it. I learned that sometimes your brain just goes somewhere random and you gotta follow it even if it feels silly at first. Has anyone else started a prompt with one idea and ended up somewhere totally different?

Squirrels running a storage unit business. That is genuinely the funniest thing I've read all week. You might have accidentally stumbled onto a whole comedy routine there.

Wait, am I the only one who actually finds it kinda brilliant though @danielmason? Squirrels are basically nature's tiny hoarders with those nut stashes, so a storage unit business feels like their natural career path. I mean, they've already got the organization skills down, right?
