Warning: A writing professor in a Denver coffee shop told me 'your first idea is usually the worst one' and it changed how I start every prompt.
He said to write down the first three ideas a prompt gives you, then throw them out and start with the fourth, which has stuck with me for over a year now.

My first three ideas are always terrible anyway.

Three bad ideas is actually the sweet spot for me. Once I get those out of the way, my fourth one is usually decent enough to try.
