Watching a guy at the Denver airport try to explain his luggage to security gave me a solid story starter.

The way he kept insisting the metal detector beeped because of his 'aura' and not the forgotten pocket knife made me think about writing a character who believes their own lies so completely they start to warp reality around them.

That airport story reminds me of a podcast about pathological liars.

Start with the small stuff. Have your character lie about something tiny, like why they're late, and then show them starting to believe it. Next time, they lie about a skill they have, and then suddenly they're trying to use it for real. The key is making each lie a little bigger and watching their world bend to fit, like insisting a room is blue when it's green until people around them start to agree.

Tried that and the lies started feeling real fast.
