Watching someone misread a prompt in a writing group last week drove me nuts

I was at this open mic writing night in Seattle last Tuesday and this guy stood up to read his piece. The prompt was 'write about a lie you told as a kid' and he read a 10 minute rant about his ex-girlfriend. Zero connection to the prompt at all. The host just sat there smiling while the whole room cringed. Has anyone else seen people completely ignore the prompt like that at a workshop?

Wait did she actually read a poem about her cat during a "regret" prompt? @rowanellis what was the cat's name in the poem? I need to know if it was one of those cats that knocks stuff off shelves or something more tragic lol.

Back in March at a workshop in Denver, a woman read a poem about her cat when the prompt was "regret.
