Got hit with a fake tech support call last week... cost me 3 hours of my life
I run a tree service and I'm not exactly a computer guy. Last Thursday I get a popup on my screen saying my computer is infected with a virus and to call this number. I panicked, called it, and ended up letting some guy remote into my machine for an hour before I realized it was a scam. He was trying to get me to pay $300 for 'protection software.' I hung up and ran a Malwarebytes scan instead. Has anyone else fallen for these popup scams or is it just me?

Wait, you let a complete stranger remote into your computer for a whole hour before you wised up?

A whole hour? That's rookie stuff. I let a guy from "Windows Support" stay on my machine for three hours while I made popcorn and watched him click around. Best entertainment I've had in months. He eventually rage quit when I asked if he could fix my toaster too.
