My old router was a security nightmare until I checked the logs
I finally looked at my router logs from the last 3 months and found over 200 failed login attempts from random IPs in China and Russia. Turns out my 2018 Netgear had outdated firmware with known vulnerabilities. After updating it and turning off remote admin access, those attempts dropped to zero within a week. Anyone else check their router logs lately and get surprised?

@simonl11 yeah I think a lot of people forget about the admin panel from the outside world being the real danger. You mentioned updating the firmware which is huge, but another thing nobody talks about is checking for default admin credentials like "admin/admin" - I'd bet a ton of those failed attempts were just bots trying those exact combos. Did you ever have to factory reset yours after all that or just patch and move on?

Dude that is wild. I had the exact same thing happen with my old Asus router last year, over 150 login attempts from random places and I had no idea. Once I turned off remote access and actually updated the firmware it stopped cold, felt like a total idiot for ignoring it so long lol.
