Overheard a coworker say his VPN got him fired, now I'm second guessing mine
So I was grabbing coffee Tuesday morning and heard two guys from accounting talking. One of them said he got let go after IT found he was using a personal VPN on his work laptop to stream soccer during lunch. Apparently the company policy blocks that stuff and they track everything. I've been running a VPN on my phone for years just for privacy at cafes and airports, but now I'm wondering if that's a risk too. Has anyone else dealt with a workplace that cracks down on personal VPN usage, even when it's not on company devices?

Think about what a VPN on your work laptop actually hides before you judge that guy.

Is the VPN hiding his search history or the fact he's watching Netflix during that 2pm "client call"? lol Either way, that guy's got more layers than an onion in a board meeting. Honestly, at this point the real mystery is how he still has a job.
