PSA: a coworker made me realize I've been doing 2FA wrong for years

I was talking to our IT guy Mike after a security seminar last week. He said most people think SMS codes are fine but they're actually super easy to intercept with SIM swapping attacks. He showed me a demo on his phone and I felt dumb for relying on texts for 3 years. Now I switched to an authenticator app on my work accounts and home stuff too. Has anyone else made the switch from SMS codes to an app recently?

@elliotadams nailed it - authenticator apps are way simpler than most people think.

Mike showed me the same trick last month and I felt like such an idiot for using SMS codes on my banking for like 5 years. Switched to Google Authenticator the same day and it's way easier than I thought it would be.

Same here, even switched my work accounts over after that.
