Realized my password manager was the weak link after a close call last week

I got an email last Thursday saying someone tried to log into my email from a new device in Chicago. I live in Ohio so that got my attention fast. I checked my password manager and saw I had been using the same master password for 3 years without changing it. Changed it right away and turned on two-factor for everything. Has anyone else had a scare like this with their password vault?

honestly i think people freak out too much about this stuff lol like yeah it's not great that someone tried to get into your email but it sounds like you caught it and fixed it before anything bad happened. the fact that they didnt actually get in means your password manager was doing its job. i use the same master password for years at a time and im fine. two factor is good but honestly most of these security scares are way overblown. unless you were using "password123" as your master password you're probably gonna be ok.

The whole internet security thing feels a lot like the lock-your-car brigade. People leave their cars unlocked in driveways for years with no problem, but the one time something happens, everyone acts like it's a miracle they weren't robbed daily. Same with passwords - most of us are just lucky nothing's happened yet. The real problem is we're all one bad day away from being the person who loses everything, but nobody wants to live like that. So we settle for "good enough" and cross our fingers. It's just another thing where the odds are on your side until they're not, and then you're stuck dealing with the mess.
