That Monday morning hack cost me 8 hours of work
Last Tuesday I thought I was being clever by saving my passwords in a text file on my desktop. Seemed faster than using that password manager my son kept telling me about. When my computer froze and I had to reboot, the file got corrupted somehow. Lost access to my email bank account and three work logins. Spent the whole day on the phone with customer support and another 2 hours resetting everything. Now I finally get why people push those password vaults so hard. Has anyone else learned this lesson the hard way?

Found out the hard way that "backup" means two copies, not one.

Invest in a third copy too @clairem47, one that's offsite... learned that one when my house got flooded and both my drives were in the same room.

Man, yeah. I used to think if I had my stuff saved on an external drive I was good to go. Then my laptop died and I realized my external drive had been corrupted for weeks without me knowing. @stella_baker is spot on about the offsite thing too. I figured having two copies in the same bag was fine until I read about someone losing both in a car theft. Now I got one drive in my desk and another at my buddy's place across town. Lesson learned the hard way.
