That 2018 study about water bottles totally flipped my view

Was at the dentist yesterday and read a 2018 study in Environmental Health Perspectives about plastic water bottles. It said a single bottle can release 240,000 nanoplastic fragments into the water if left in a hot car. I used to think glass was just a trend. Now I'm ditching all my plastic ones from Target.

Wait but were those bottles actually tested under typical use conditions or did they just leave them in a car for hours at like 150 degrees? I keep my water bottles in my backpack sometimes when its hot out and now I'm paranoid. Also do different brands like Nalgene vs the cheap gas station ones release different amounts? Cause my Nalgene is thick plastic but I still left it on my dash last summer. Should I be worried about that one bad day or is it more about long term exposure building up over years?

Honestly, I just switched to a stainless steel one and called it good.

@norathomas Nalgene is thicker plastic so it probably sheds less, but yeah heat makes any plastic release more junk. I'd stop leaving bottles in hot cars if you're worried, just toss them in the fridge before you head out.
