Vent: Handwashing vs. dishwasher for chef knives, please don't make my mistake
I accidentally threw my good chef knife in the dishwasher last week after a 12-hour shift. Pulled it out and the edge looked all cloudy and rough. Handwashing with soap and a sponge takes 30 seconds but that dishwasher wrecked my edge in one cycle. Now I gotta spend money on a new knife just because I was too tired to do it right. Has anyone else lost a blade to the dishwasher?

Haha "too tired to do it right" is basically my entire cooking life man. I once tossed my Wusthof in there after a long shift too and it came out looking like I tried to sharpen it with a rock. Ended up using it as a butter knife for a month before I gave in and bought a new one. Now I literally stick a post-it on the fridge that says "handwash knives dummy" so I don't do it again.

Started taping a little reminder right on the dishwasher handle that says "no hand wash knives here". Works way better than the post-it because I see it every time I go to open the door.
