Why does the grocery store on 3rd have such awful lighting at 7 PM?
I stopped in last night to grab a few things and everything looked washed out and gray, like I was shopping in a doctor's waiting room on a bad day. The produce section especially was brutal, I nearly grabbed a wilted head of lettuce because I couldn't tell it was sad under those flickering tubes. Anyone else notice stores messing with the lights to hide stuff, or is this just my local spot being cheap?

Read a thing a while back about how a lot of stores swapped to cheap LED tubes to save on the power bill, but the color on the cheap ones makes everything look gray and dead. The produce thing is real too, bad light makes old veggies look less old, so some spots almost count on it. My cousin manages a store and he said the flicker usually means they bought the bargain set and the ballast is going out. The fix is they should be running lights closer to daylight color, but that costs more, so here we are squinting at lettuce. Next time just use your phone flashlight on the produce, sounds dumb but it works.
