Hit 500 home cooked meals logged in my app... didn't realize I was eating out so much

I started tracking every meal I cooked at home back in January just to see where my money was going. Yesterday my app hit 500 meals logged and I was honestly shocked. I used to eat out like 3 or 4 times a week easy and now it's maybe once a month. Thats like $2,000 saved compared to last year just from cooking at home. My grocery bill went up a little but not even close to what I was spending on takeout. Has anyone else tracked something similar and been surprised by the numbers?

Honestly, did it change what you cook too? I tracked my takeout spending for a month and it was like $400. Now I batch cook on Sundays and it's way cheaper. My grocery bill went up maybe $50 but we waste WAY less food now, so it balances out.

Yeah I see this differently. You said "it's way cheaper" but that only works if you actually like what you're cooking and stick with it. I tried the batch cooking thing and got bored of eating the same stuff by Wednesday. Ended up throwing food away which kills any savings. Plus people don't count their time. Prepping, cooking, cleaning takes hours a week. If you value your time at all that $2000 saved isn't really $2000. It's more like you traded takeout money for free time and that's fine if you like cooking but it's not just a straight financial win.
