Hot take: I found out my local library spends more on ebook licenses than physical books, and I think that's a problem.

Oh man, that's a wild fact! It makes me feel a bit silly for always worrying about late fees on a paperback. At least my overdue copy of a cookbook is still on the shelf for someone else after I return it. If the library's digital copy just gets taken back by the company, that's not really a library book at all, is it? It's more like a long rental that could end any time. That feels like a shaky way to build a public collection.
