I hit 10,000 steps for 30 days straight and it changed how I feel about walking

I always thought walking was too boring to matter, but I got a cheap pedometer app and decided to try hitting 10,000 steps every day for a month. After day 15 in my neighborhood around Oak Park, I noticed my back pain from sitting at my desk was way better. What convinced me was how my mood just felt lighter in the afternoons. Has anyone else had a simple daily number shift their perspective on something?

Man 10,000 steps just to fix my back? I barely do 10 steps to the fridge without complaining.

My buddy Mike was the same way, total couch guy who swore walking was pointless. He got dragged along on a work team building thing and had to use a step tracker for a week just to prove he could do it. By day four he was parking way further from the grocery store entrance just to bump up his numbers. Then he started taking a quick lap around his block during lunch breaks and said his afternoon slump basically disappeared. Now he's got some cheap clip on thing and complains if he ends the day under 8,000 steps.
