I peeled carrots wrong for 27 years, my roommate showed me
I was prepping soup on Thursday and my roommate walked in, saw me peeling toward my thumb, and just said "you're gonna cut yourself doing that." She flipped the carrot and pushed the peeler away from her hand, and honestly it felt like a lightbulb went off, has anyone else had a basic kitchen move they did backwards forever?

Huh, that's wild because I had the opposite realization a few years back, everyone always told me to peel away from my hand but the carrots kept slipping out of my grip. I found out pushing toward my thumb with a really sharp peeler actually gives me way more control, the blade bites into the carrot instead of skidding off the skin. So your roommate's way isn't objectively right, it just depends on how tight you hold the veggie and how dull your peeler is. The real trick is just buy a decent peeler, most people's problems come from using a flimsy one that forces them into awkward angles.
