My garage fridge died and I lost 30 pounds of venison in one afternoon
Came home last Tuesday and the garage smelled like a dead animal. The fridge was 12 years old and I heard it running the night before, so I figured it was fine. Opened the door and everything inside was warm, the venison from my November hunt was completely thawed and ruined. I spent the next 4 hours scrubbing every shelf with bleach and had to toss the whole thing. Anyone else had a quiet appliance failure sneak up on them like that, what did you do to prevent it next time?
Garage temperature sensor saved me after my second loss. I bought a cheap WiFi one for 20 bucks and it alerts my phone if the temp climbs above 40 degrees, plus it logs the power so I know if the breaker trips. Also got in the habit of putting a frozen water bottle in the freezer, if it's still solid in the middle after a week I know the unit is holding cold. Six years with my new fridge and no surprises since.
