Picked the express lane at the grocery store and it backfired bad
So I had like 8 items the other day and chose the express lane over the regular one. The lady in front of me had a cart overflowing but said she only had 10 items. She had 20 something and the cashier didn't stop her. I stood there for 12 minutes while the regular lane moved twice as fast. Has anyone else had a similar thing happen with the express lane at like Safeway or somewhere?

12 minutes is honestly not that bad, I waited 18 once at a Vons because the cashier decided to have a full conversation with the guy ahead of me about his dog's surgery. It feels like the express lane has become this weird social contract that nobody actually follows anymore, like how people say "sorry I'm late" but everyone knows they planned to be late. You see it everywhere now too, like people picking the "10 items or less" line with a full cart and just staring you down if you say something. It's basically become a rule that if you want speed you should pick the regular lane because no one respects the express anymore.

Isn't it frustrating how the express lane has become the "everybody's lane" instead? Next time, count the items yourself and if it's way over, just politely let the cashier know before they start scanning. I've found that cutting my losses and switching to a regular lane early saves more time than standing there seething for 12 minutes.
