Rant: My local coffee shop messed up my order 3 times in one morning and now I bring my own cup
I've been going to Brewed Awakening on Main Street for like 2 years now. Last Tuesday I went through the drive thru and they gave me a latte instead of a black coffee. Then I went inside to swap it and they handed me a mocha. By the time I got the right drink I was 20 minutes late to work. The barista just shrugged and said 'my bad'. It's not that big a deal but it got me thinking - what if I just start making my own coffee at home? I already bought a $25 french press from Target. Has anyone else just given up on coffee shops after too many mess ups?

Wait, you paid 25 bucks for a french press? That's a serious investment for someone who was just annoyed about one bad morning. My buddy bought one at a garage sale for like 3 dollars and it works perfectly fine. You could've gotten a whole bag of good beans and a cheap press for that money and saved yourself the drive thru drama forever. Did you at least check Facebook Marketplace before dropping that kind of cash on something so basic?

Honestly, I read somewhere that most coffee shops get like 1 in 10 orders wrong on a busy day, so hitting three in a row is pretty bad luck but not totally unheard of. My buddy who works at a Starbucks said their machine can literally mix up a latte and a black coffee if they don't rinse the steam wand right, so it might've been a equipment thing too. Still, $25 for a french press isn't crazy if you use it a few times a week, that pays for itself quick compared to buying $5 coffees. I keep a little Aeropress at my desk now for the same reason, just saves the headache of hoping someone hits the right button.

You said 'it's not that big a deal' but then you bought a whole french press. That's a $25 overreaction to a barista having a rough Tuesday. Coffee shops mess up orders sometimes, it happens. I've had the same barista at my spot get my drink wrong like three times in a row and I just laugh it off, it's really not worth getting worked up over. For 25 bucks you could have just bought 5 more coffees there and given them another chance.
