Spent $80 on a fancy litter box robot and my cat refuses to use it

Honestly, I thought I was being smart getting one of those automatic self-cleaning litter boxes for $80 on sale. My cat took one look at it, hissed, and now she's pooping behind the couch instead. Tbh I tried putting her old litter in there and even left treats nearby, still nothing. Ngl I'm thinking about just going back to the $12 plastic pan from Walmart. Has anyone else's pet totally rejected a pricey upgrade like this?

Or how my neighbor got a top-of-the-line espresso machine but still drives to Starbucks every morning. Sometimes our brains just lock onto what works, and anything new feels like a threat. Your cat probably thinks that robot thing is some weird predator sitting in her bathroom. Honestly, the $12 pan might be the smarter move here - sometimes cheap and simple really is the best.
