The $18 timer switch I installed in the bathroom that completely stopped the morning rush fights
So here's the deal. My wife and I have been fighting over the bathroom fan for like 2 years. She always forgets to turn it off after a shower, and I go in there at 2 AM and it's still running. Or she leaves it off and the whole room gets moldy. It was driving me nuts.
I tried leaving sticky notes. Tried yelling. Nothing worked. So last weekend I was at Lowe's and saw this cheap timer switch for $18. Not the fancy digital kind, just a mechanical one with the little dial you twist. I figured what the heck, I'd try it.
Took me 30 minutes to swap out the old switch. Wiring was easy since it's just two wires and a ground. Set it for 30 minutes after the last press. Now the fan runs exactly 30 minutes after she flips the switch and turns off automatically. No more mold. No more fan running all night.
Has anyone else tried those cheap timer switches for something like this? I'm thinking about putting one on the porch light too.

Read a thing online about how those cheap mechanical timers actually last longer than the fancy digital ones because there's no circuit board to fry. Picked one up for my porch light last month, set it for 3 hours at dusk. Saves me from looking like a jackass leaving it on all night. Just make sure you get one rated for LED bulbs if you have them, the old ones can flicker bad.
