Unpopular opinion: that guy who held up the line at Target was right to be mad

I was at the self checkout in Chicago last Tuesday and this older guy in front of me got angry because the machine asked him to scan his receipt to leave. The teen worker just shrugged and said it's policy. Honestly I get his frustration nobody wants to be treated like a shoplifter after handing over $80. Has anyone else felt that weird tension where stores act like you're guilty until proven innocent?

Right? It's like they're mad you're buying stuff. I had some security guard at Home Depot follow me around last week just because I had a backpack, didn't even buy anything and still felt like I did something wrong.

For real though, keep the backpack empty and held low or just leave it in the car next time if you can. I tell my crew to always grab a cart and toss their bag in there so it's clear you're not hiding anything. Sucks you gotta play their game but it usually makes them back off.

Treated like a shoplifter" really hit home, I used to side with stores but you're totally right.
