Walked past my neighbor's lawn every day for a year before I noticed the clover took over

I live in a neighborhood in Phoenix where everyone has that perfect green grass. My neighbor Ralph never watered or fertilized his front yard, just let it go. After about 8 months I realized his lawn was totally covered in clover, soft and green all summer while everyone else's grass turned brown. He told me he planted it on purpose 2 years ago because clover stays green with barely any water. Has anyone else switched over to clover lawns or tried something weird like that?

Oh I feel you on this one so much. My neighbor Bob has this patch of moss in his backyard he let take over and honestly it's the softest thing I've ever walked on barefoot in the summer. It stays cool and damp even when it's 95 out here. I tried a mini patch of clover in my side yard last spring and the bees loved it (which scared my kids at first but they got used to it). The thing I noticed is how much less I'm watering compared to the front lawn, like maybe a third of the time. Definitely thinking about going bigger with it when the HOA stops giving me grief about the grass being "non standard.

Yes! @margareth48 my neighbor did the same thing and now I'm clover-curious for my own yard too.
