What if you had to live without your fridge for a week?
My power went out for four days last winter and I had to get creative with a cooler on the porch. I ended up eating a lot of canned soup and learned how fast milk goes bad. Anyone have a good plan for the next time this happens?

You said you used a cooler on the porch, but isn't the outside temp still too warm for that in winter?

My porch is on the north side and stays pretty shaded, so it's basically a giant fridge from November to March. Last week I checked and it was a steady 38 degrees out there even when the daytime air temp hit 50. The real trick is using a simple thermometer to find those cold spots around your own house, like against a north wall or in an unheated garage.

But 38 degrees is basically fridge temp. That's not a cold spot, that's just a working appliance. My garage never gets below 45. Sounds like you won the house lottery.
