Chose a burner phone over my smart phone for 3 months in Austin

Back in May, I swapped my iPhone for a $40 flip phone to avoid location tracking and ad cross-referencing. It worked, but I missed maps and two-factor auth so badly I went back after 87 days. The irony is I now pay for a VPN and use a tracker blocker, which feels like more work than just being careful. Anyone else try a dumb phone and cave for a dumb reason?

Worked, but I missed maps" is exactly what got my buddy Dan. He did the flip phone thing last fall, swore by it for two weeks. Then his kid had a soccer game at some field that only exists in a group text, and he spent an hour driving in circles near Manor. Gave up when he realized he couldn't even Venmo the pizza guy without pulling out his laptop. The tracker blocker thing, yeah, he does that now too. Says it's easier than asking strangers for directions.
