DAE feel like 'green' tech is just another way to harvest our personal data?
I recently signed up for a community solar program that came with a dashboard app to track energy savings. To optimize efficiency, it asked for access to my utility history and even wanted to sync with my smart home devices. I mean, idk, maybe it's just me, but I started wondering who else sees this detailed profile of when I'm home or what appliances I use. It's frustrating how sustainability initiatives often come bundled with this quiet erosion of privacy. Now I'm questioning if reducing my carbon footprint is worth amplifying my data footprint.

Ugh, I mean we're getting tracked by everything already though, right? My regular weather app probably knows more about me than that dashboard. Idk if the green part makes it uniquely worse compared to everything else.

What if the green part isn't just color, but a whole different data marketplace, @jake189? Your weather app tracks location, but a sustainability dashboard might tie your energy use to your identity for carbon scoring. That data could be sold to insurers or employers, not just advertisers. So yeah, it's uniquely worse because it attaches ethics to your privacy invasion.
