Figured out how to stop my phone from listening to ads
I turned off the mic permission for every app except phone calls and maps last month, and suddenly my Instagram feed stopped showing me stuff I only talked about out loud - has anyone else noticed this actually works?

Tried the same thing on my android phone two months ago. Killed mic access for everything except maps and the phone dialer. My facebook app stopped showing me ads for grills and camping gear right after a conversation I had about camping with my brother. The really creepy part is that spotify stopped recommending podcasts about car maintenance too. I also noticed my youtube suggestions went back to stuff I actually searched for instead of random junk. It definitely works.

People really don't believe how much these apps listen until they try it themselves. The youtube change is what got me too because it proves they were using audio data to push weird recommendations. I blocked mic access on everything except maps and phone calls about six months back. My spotify immediately stopped serving me random podcasts I never asked for. Its like these companies built their whole ad system on spying through our own phones.
