Just realized my smart meter is sending data every 15 minutes.

My power company's website shows a live usage graph. It's not just for billing, they can see exactly when I'm home, asleep, or running appliances. Anyone else check what their own meter is actually reporting?

My buddy found out his meter could track his EV charging. He called to ask, and they confirmed they see the exact spike every night. Kind of makes you wonder what else is in that data stream.

Saw an article a while back about smart meter data showing when people were home based on appliance use. They could basically guess your daily routine. If they see the water heater kick on at the same time every morning, they know when you shower. That nightly EV charge is just one very clear piece of the puzzle. It makes you wonder how detailed that energy use picture really is over time.
