My ex's name showed up in a data leak from 2018
I checked my email on haveibeenpwned last night. Found out a Target breach from 2021 had my old address. The creepy part? My ex-girlfriend's name was sitting right there in the exposed data. We broke up 3 years ago. How is her info still tied to my account? I never shared that account with her. Has anyone else found random people's data in their breach reports?

Woah, hold on a second. I get why that's weird and all, but I actually see that as a good sign. Think about it, if you used that email to order her a gift or book a trip together way back when, that's just the digital trail of your old life. It's not her haunting you, it's the Target database remembering a moment you two shared, even if it's a crummy one now. That's just how the internet works, it doesn't care about your breakup timeline. I'd say take the silver lining in that it's a solid reminder to go through your accounts and strip out all the old shared info. Better to know now than find out during some other mess down the road.

Yeah because nothing says "successful breakup" like having your ex's name haunt you from a Target data breach three years later. Guess she's still technically in your life through the magic of corporate incompetence and exposed passwords. Silver lining is at least you know her info got leaked too, so that's some weird digital solidarity right there.
