My grandmother's landline fear from 1999 still haunts me
Back when I was 12, my grandma told me not to talk about Christmas presents on the phone because 'the operators might be listening.' I laughed then, but last month I found out my smart speaker recorded a private conversation about my sister's health issues and sent it to a random contact. It makes me wonder what she would say about all this tracking.

Is your grandma's suspicion of 'the operators' somehow more rational than my distrust of a plastic speaker listening to my dinner conversations? Hearing that your sister's private health info got blasted to a random contact feels like a bad Black Mirror episode but with worse customer service. Honestly, at this point I'm half expecting my phone to text my ex about the weird rash I googled at 2am, lmao.

Honestly that's wild about your sister's info getting sent out. Tbh my grandma had a point back then, just about different things. Ngl I turned off my smart speaker's mic after hearing stories like yours, not worth the risk.
