My neighbor's privacy screen advice backfired in 3 weeks
Last month my neighbor Rick told me to put frosted glass film on my windows so the guy across the street couldn't watch me work from home. I bought the cheap stuff for $12 at a hardware store on 5th Avenue. A week later I couldn't see my own monitor because the film turned into a giant glare mirror in the afternoon sun. Now I have blinds AND the film, and I still feel like the whole street knows what time I eat lunch. Anyone else get burned by a privacy fix that made things worse?
Man, I used to think privacy film was this magic cheap fix for everything. My sister put some on her bathroom window and swore by it, so I figured it would work just as well on my front windows facing the street. Two afternoons in and I was squinting at my own laptop because the sun bounced right off that film straight into my eyes. The worst part is at night, when the lights are on inside, that same film turns my living room into a free show for anybody walking by. Now I keep the curtains shut all day, which kind of defeats the whole point of having windows. Lesson learned, cheap film just moves the problem around instead of fixing it.
