My smart scale sold my sleep schedule to a stranger in Ohio
Last Tuesday I got a random email from a guy in Dayton thanking me for my 2 AM weigh-ins, turns out the cheap scale app I got in March had a privacy hole where anyone with my username could see my whole profile. I only found out because he messaged me asking if I was okay after I missed three nights of data. I checked the app's settings and there was no way to lock it down, just a warning that data is shared for "research." Has anyone else had a fitness gadget spill their private routines like that?
The part about "data is shared for research" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there, sounds like research means some dude in Dayton studying your bathroom habits lol. Half these cheap fitness apps treat privacy like a suggestion and the other half just straight up sell you out. Next time maybe check if the thing has a lock option before it starts filing reports on your sleep.
